Me and my very bestfriend.
My name is Krista, and I am a third year student majoring in Speech and Hearing with intentions of eventually landing a career as a Speech Pathologist. I transferred from a community college in Huntington Beach/Newport Beach, CA where I’ve spent the past two years living. This is actually my very first semester here at ASU. Technically, I am an Arizona Native. I grew up in the Northern part of the state but after spending so much time in California I don’t really feel as though I’ve moved back home, but rather as if I’ve just moved to a new place. I’m both excited and nervous to be back in Arizona, at a new school, and in a new city.
Growing up, my family was almost entirely female. I have three sisters and though I don’t have any brothers, I now have three very sweet nephews and an awesome brother-in-law who help to tie up the family’s male/female ratio. My Mom and sisters are some of my best friends.
Me and my oldest nephew, Eli.
I enjoy most things in life, but I do have a few dislikes here and there. I love to read, and am sad to admit I am an obnoxious reader at that. I occasionally find myself eating dinner with a book on my lap, or summarizing an entire novel to someone who hasn’t had a chance to read it yet. My favorite books vary quite vastly from the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling to Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. Volleyball and snowboarding are two of my favorite sports to play, and Mexican and Filipino food always tend to satisfy. I generally prefer to be outside as opposed to being inside, enjoy traveling, and staying fairly active. I tend to find a relaxing night at home with my friends equally as enjoyable as a night out on the town. A few of my dislikes include buying or cooking red meat (the sight and smell of the blood tickles my gag reflex), the pheromones of ants, the sound of rubbing styrofoam, and traffic cameras.
I’ve been in the valley nearly a week now and I am absolutely not anticipating any more of these 105+ degree days, but I am looking forward to meeting new friends at school, exploring the deserts, and being able to spend more time with my family.
